Off Road fun with an FJ80
Work hard. Play hard. Something a manager told me once. In my down time between work and family life, getting out the house and off the paved road is something I enjoy quite a bit.
This is the current (for now) desert rig. It’s a 1991 Toyota Landcruiser (FJ80). Below are some specs:
- 4.0L engine – 3FE
- Full time 4WD
- Center locking diff
I’ve had it a little over two years now and put about 10k miles on it. Besides some regular maintenance, some of the upgrades I’ve done include:
- Pioneer head unit w/ bluetooth
- Mickey Thompson Classic III in Black – 16×8
- Cooper A/T3 in 285/75/16
It’s served me well so far. That includes a trip up to 12K+ elevation up to White mountain, and many trips out to Ocotillo Wells.
All of the included pictures are from a fun trip we had in October out to Ocotillo Wells, including a hike to Superstition. It was a lot of fun and I’m thankful for having plenty of experienced off roaders in our crew. Seems a few of us got stuck… and a few tires became casualties…
I’ll be posting more later about trips to the desert and what trip plans are coming up. Along the lines of trips, I’m sure there will be some gear reviews thrown in as well and new product announcements. The current desert rig may be replaced in the near future… so I’ll post more about that as well.
Stay tuned. And always, thanks for the support and following.
